TTArtisan 27mm F2.8 Overview

The TTArtisan 27mm F2.8 is a compact and versatile prime lens that’s perfect to take along for any occasion. Starting at $150, the TTArtisan packs a punch with its small build and the high-quality images it can produce. The lens has an all-metal body made out of aluminum, which gives it a solid, high-quality feel. Along with the quality build, the lens weighs in at only 93 grams with a portable size of 29 millimeters. The TTArtisan 27mm F2.8 is the definition of a “pancake” lens!

First Impressions

In the time that I’ve owned this lens, I’ve been amazed by the quality of images that it’s been able to produce. For the $150 price, the lens captures images that are just as sharp as their comparable counterparts.

Along with that, the size of the lens has made it easy to carry and not feel bulky. One of the first things I noticed about this lens was its incredibly small size. Compared to the 18-55mm kit lens included with my camera, this lens is about half the size.

Compact and Lightweight Design

Adding this lens onto any camera is going to give you a whole new shooting experience. With how small this lens is, it’ll make any camera much more pocketable and easy to take on the go.

When I purchased my Fujifilm X-T30, I knew that I wanted a kit that would be small and good for an everyday carry. This was a big factor for me because I was so used to bulky DSLRs. I wanted a camera and lens combo that would work well to be more discreet. While the 18-55mm Fujinon kit lens that came included is an amazing lens, I knew I would have to look for something smaller. TTArtisan’s 27mm was the perfect option, as Fujifilm’s own 27mm was going for about $250 more.

Autofocus

The autofocus on the lens does a pretty good job at focusing quickly and accurately. I have noticed that when I get into the F11+ range, it goes in and out of focus and takes a moment to dial in on the subject.

The stepping motor does a great job of allowing the lens to be very quiet. If you’re out where there’s a low level of noise, you shouldn’t hear any noise coming from the motor. Recording video with the TTArtisan 27mm was the only time that I really noticed the lens working to focus. If you don’t plan to use the onboard microphone of your camera, I wouldn’t worry about picking up any noise.

USB Interface

One of the most interesting things to me about this lens is that you’re able to update the firmware. TTArtisan makes it very easy for users to update the firmware on their lenses. The USB interface is designed directly into the rear lens cap. After downloading the updated firmware, it’s as simple as dragging the file over.

Would I reccommend the TTArtisan 27mm F2.8?

Yes! The TTArtisan 27mm F2.8 has been my go-to lens for my Fujifilm X-T30 since I got it back in early 2024. Having such a small lens has made it easy for me to take my camera everywhere. It’s a very versatile lens and does a great job in most situations. I’ve been able to use it for portraits, landscapes, and street photography without any issue.

If you’re in the market for a budget-friendly “pancake lens”, I would definitely take a look at the TTArtisan 27mm F2.8!
